The Pleasure-Filled Guide to Summer

Jul 28, 2023

A tough-to-take near-miss for England Cricket.

After a spirited performance, the England men’s cricket team were eventually thwarted by Manchester rain and could only draw the crucial fourth Ashes test. At 2-1 down with one game to play, they can no longer win the series, meaning that the urn will stay in Australia. As disappointing as that is, it’s been a wonderfully entertaining contest and one that is reaching its climax at The Oval. The series can still be drawn— there’s much to play for— so we’re sure that cricket fans are in for a treat.

Three ‘top tens’ in The Open.

The Open also didn’t go the way home supporters were hoping. While we might not have had a winner, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood were joined in the top ten by Matthew Jordan, which is a proud result for the home nations. As far as we’re concerned, they all deserve a glass or two of delicious fruit gin Champagne-style cocktail. As do you, of course, so why not buy flavoured Prosecco online and treat yourselves to a glass of Gasm? You can buy directly from us (we deliver quickly) here.

The Royal Welsh Show.

It’s very much ‘all hands on deck’ for our small team at the moment. We had a wonderful (and busy!) time at the Royal Welsh Show, which is undoubtedly one of our favourite occasions of the year. It’s very much a ‘home’ event for us and there is something so special about Welsh producers coming together. It’s always a real joy to introduce people to Gasm Drinks for the first time and see their response to the three delicious flavours in our range. People really do love what we’ve come up with, and it’s much easier to let them have a taste than to describe what to expect from a ‘ready-to-drink fruit gin champagne style cocktail’!

There are a lot of wines and spirits, but there aren’t a lot of Gasms.

Face-to-face sampling will always be an important part of our marketing, as we are bringing something new to the table. Creating a fruit gin-based sparkling wine cocktail is quite an adventurous thing to do, and people often say they’ve not tried anything like Gasm before. We also get asked a lot about our name and how we came up with it.

The Game Fair.

For ‘sloegasm’ fans, though, it all makes perfect sense. And there’s nowhere better to meet them than The Game Fair. A ‘sloegasm’—sloe gin topped up with bubbly— is the tipple of choice for shooting trips, so we’re in familiar territory. Our product was dreamt up outside: the warming kick of fruit gin really comes into its own in the open air. The Game Fair is on all weekend (28-30 July), so please do come along and say hello!

For a truly Glorious Goodwood, we can’t let wet weather dampen our spirits.

It is rainy at the moment, but the summer season show must go on, and next up in the calendar is Glorious Goodwood(Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th August). Racing fans, umbrellas in hands, will descend in their thousands to West Sussex for one of the highlights of the Great British summer. If you’re tempted to go along, Ladies’ Day, which is on Thursday, is a great choice for a fun day out. It’s a rare opportunity to dress your best, have a good old-fashioned party and soak up the extraordinary atmosphere. There’s nothing like a day at the races.

Picnic dead certs.

Once you’ve decided on your snazziest outfit, you might start thinking about your picnic preparations. If you get tickets to the Lennox Enclosure, you’re allowed to bring your own food and there are areas for children to play, so it’s a terrific option for families. If you’re thinking of what to take that everyone will like, simple smoked salmon on brown bread triangles are always a winner- just remember to pack a lemon! Another sure-fire hit is a few of the sausage rolls that quality butchers sell: you can slice them into easy and delicious picnic snacks that everyone will love.

Picking your intensely pleasurable moment.

You’re not allowed to take booze or glass into the enclosures themselves, so those of you who aren’t driving might want to raise a cheeky glass of Gasm by the car boot before going in! If you’ve chosen to get the train down to Chichester(you can get a taxi to the venue for around £20), there’s nothing better than a glass of Gasm to get you in the mood, so make sure to buy flavoured Prosecco online and stock up on a ‘glorious’ fizz cocktail of your own.

We’re off to the Game Fair now. Hope to see you there!
